Different Methods for colour change when crocheting

In this tutorial, we will be learning how to change colour in the round. Changing colour in the row often requires a second step for seamless changes, but we’ll cover that another day. This technique will enable you to make neat colour changes when working in the round.

For the purposes of this tutorial, we will refer to the first colour (orange below) as Colour A, and the second colour (blue below) as Colour B.

Step 1.

Work the second to last stitch of colour A as normal.

Step 2.

Insert your hook into the next stitch.

Step 3.

Yarn over and pull a loop through of Colour A.

Step 4.

Here is where we switch colours. Yarn over with Colour B.

If Colour A is finished, now would be the time to cut and fasten off, otherwise carry the yarn behind your work.

Step 5.

Pull the loop of Colour B through.

Step 6.

Continue to work with Colour B as directed by your pattern.

And you’re done! Enjoy your beautiful colour changes!
